1. Why we do this…

-------------------------

The following is from one of our mentors to all our Alumni:

My very best friend of 15 years has a young 8 year old cousin, Sam, who has been battling Leukemia for years now. He is your typical 8 year old, adorable, little boy. Good heart and personality, full of life and laughter, and concerns that only include what his next snack will be and if he will get that new toy he saw in the store. Sam comes from a loving family who also has a set of twins. Although his family lives out of state, he often travels to Pittsburgh in order to receive treatment at Children's Hospital. It is not unlikely for him to be admitted for days, weeks, or even months at a time. Today, Sam lost his battle to Leukemia. On behalf of my best friend, Sam, and his family, I wanted to share his story with you all to remind you that you are a crucial part in preventing this from happening to other kids and families. Although it is always heartbreaking to hear of such unfortunate endings, let it serve us as a reminder of how important Team in Training's mission is to us, to patients, and those they leave behind. Let it remind us to not take life for granted. To tell our family and friends how much we love and appreciate them. You may at times think, "I am only one person", but you are a person with a heart and a desire to influence other's lives. You DO make a difference!

Let's have Sam be that reminder for us today. If you are out running/ walking today, dedicate a mile to Sam. While you run/walk that mile, take time to be thankful for all of your blessings. For those of you who may be contending with your own battles, no matter how big or small, let that mile free you of your worries and feel the beauty of each breath you take!

2. TNT Medals 4 Mettle Partnership

-------------------------------------------

We are excited to bring a new program to our alumni. We have worked with Medals4Mettle to bring a new program to help bring emotional support and inspiration to our biggest heroes… the patients. If you are fund-raising for an event and are willing to give up your race medal, we would like to assign you a patient who will gain so much from your inspiration. During the process of your training, you will send letters, emails, etc. and update the patient on your progress.

In the end you will give them your medal in recognition of their personal battle.

If you are not currently a fund-raising alumni, we are supporting the growth of Medals4Mettle by giving them old marathon, half-marathon, and triathlon medals to give to patients.

We need your help, please contact Justin Schell at justin.schell@psualum.com for an information packet.
