Happy Spring!

With the Pittsburgh Marathon just 13 short days away, this edition is PACKED with information!

We wish all of our current fundraising participants, alumni, coaches, mentors, family, and friends a FANTASTIC race! Can't wait to see all that purple along the course! GO TEAM!

The Monthly Monday will be sent out once a month on the Monday following the alumni meetings, which are held the second Wednesday evening of every month. This is just another tool for all of us to stay connected. Enjoy!

LLS Fact of the Month

From 15 to 19 years, more non-Hispanic white children are diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma than children of other races or ethnic groups

Pittsburgh Marathon 2010

Water Stop

TNT will be running a water stop near the 16th Street Bridge. It is a great way to volunteer, and get a front row seat to see you run through during the beginning of the race. The Water Stop is easily accessible by Car before and during the race. It is also approximately 1 to 2 miles from both the TNT Mission Mile in the Southside and the Finish Area. You could easily work the water stop from open until close, and make it to the Finish Area or Southside (depending on the speed of the runner). For anyone to help at the water stop contact Christie Schnelbach (Christie.schnelback@lls.org).

TNT Mission Mile

TNT has a wonderful tradition at Marathons of making a place for runners and their families to express the TNT Mission of Fighting Blood Cancers and Saving Lives. Mission miles are an area along the course where we have signs encouraging our runners or remembering those we are running for. TNT Purple and Green is the theme for these areas, and there is no better place to see a TNT runner than in this area. For the Pittsburgh Marathon, the Mission Mile will be in the Southside. For half marathoners, there will be an RV near Carson Street and Terminal Way. For full marathoners, there will be a group at the turn before the Birmingham Bridge on Carson Street.

Here is how anyone can help with the TNT Mission Mile.

1. Setup – Set-up begins at 4:00 AM on Marathon Sunday. The

team is meeting at the RV Location at Carson and Terminal Way. Margo Cicci (mcicci76@yahoo.com) can be contacted by people who want to help set-up. She is looking for teams of 2 or 3 people in a car to hang signs and decorations along Carson. Bring a roll of Duct Tape.

2. Cheer – Pick your stop and Cheer at the RV or the Bridge or

anywhere in between. Wear anything purple and if you want something TNT, visit the TNT store online (http://www5.cintasvip.com/ uniformcatalog/default.asp?p=LLS+TNT). The best place to park if you want to leave during the race by car is the Southside Works. Other areas will be restricted till the race field passes.

3. Make a Sign – Seeing a sign with your name is the greatest

thrill during a race! Have you family members bring a sign to the mission mile to hold up as runners (you especially) go by. We love signs that remind us of the TNT Mission. They can say “Heroes wear purple” or remember a loved one lost to Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Blood Cancer; or maybe a survivor.

4. Help Clean Up – We want to be good citizens and we need

similar teams as the set-up teams to help tear down our signs after the field passes. This is the 6-8 mile-ish area, so the roads will open fairly quickly in comparison to later race areas.
